For Your Eyes Only

For_your_eyes_only

About 75% of my female patients over the age of 30 complain about the
signs of aging around their eyes. While the major complaint is crows
feet, some other complaints include dark undereye circles,
pigmentation, loose and lax skin under the eyes, general puffiness and
redness, droopy eyebrows, and excess skin of the upper eyelid and lower
eyelid (undereye bags).

The good news is that there are many treatment options available.
Below, I will discuss some of the most effective treatments:

For crows feet made worse by squinting or muscular contraction, the
most effective treatment with no downtime is Botox. To achieve the
longest-lasting result, make sure your dermatologist uses the safest
maximum number of units per area, and doesn’t overly dilute the Botox.
Also, go to a dermatologist who has experience injecting Botox. There
is an absolute art to cosmetic treatments, and I believe there is a
difference between doctors, such as myself, who have been injecting
Botox for years, and non-dermatologists or non-cosmetic surgeons who do
not have the same experience or expertise.

For dark undereye circles due to brown pigmentation, patients can be
treated with prescription bleach creams. For more difficult cases, ask
for stronger compounded products that contain even higher
concentrations of bleaching components than commerical prescription
products. These products, such as kaplanMD Triple Bleach Cream, are
available in my office, and are not available in pharmacies. Laser is
also an option for certain cases of pigmentation.

Loose and lax skin under the eyes can be treated with a tightening
laser, such as a Sciton Laser with Erbium and Coagulation settings.
Other skin tightening lasers, also available at my office, can also be
helpful. Depending on the amount of laxity under the skin, and how
deep the laser needs to go, you will usually have redness under the
eyes for about 1 to 3 weeks. After the first week, you can wear makeup
to cover up the redness.

Fine lines around the eyes can be treated with an Erbium Lasers, and
other Skin Tightening lasers. Usually, loose and lax skin goes hand in
hand with wrinkles around the eyes. It is best to use the Sciton laser,
or other Erbium and Skin Tightening lasers simultaneously to achieve
the best results.

For puffiness around the eyes, use skincare products containing high
concentrations of aloe, chamomile, sweet orange, red tea, cucumber
and/or algae extract.

Lastly, excess skin on the lower eyelids, or “undereye bags,” can be
corrected with cosmetic surgery. For doopy eyelids or excess skin above
the eyes, these can be corrected with an eyelid or brow lift. However,
depending on the extent of the eyebrow droop, this can also be
corrected with Botox or laser.

The most important thing to remember is you only have one face. Go to a
reputable physician for laser, cosmetic surgery, and other cosmetic
procedures. These are still medical procedures, and should be managed
by an experienced physician.
