The Guy's Guide to Skincare

Most dermatologists recommend washing your face twice a day. It might seem like a hassle, but removing excess oil and dirt will prevent breakouts and irritation, while also allowing skin cells to renew while you sleep. Gentle, foaming cleansers will keep skin’s pH balanced while effectively keeping skin clear and oil free.

When it comes to ingredients that fight oil, breakouts, and razor bumps, Benzoyl Peroxide is the clear winner. It unclogs pores, kills bacteria, and exfoliates dead skin cells. Choose products with a high concentration of BP (at least 5%) for the most effective results.

Removing dull, dead skin is key to a healthy complexion. Try to exfoliate with a gentle scrub 2-3 times a week. Make sure to exfoliate prior to shaving to clear away dead skin cells that can result in an uneven shave, or ingrown hairs.

The need for sunscreen every day is pretty much irrefutable at this point. If you need some extra convincing, imagine your face is like your car dashboard: If you expose it every day to sun, after a while it will get dull, fade, and crack. No one wants that to happen to their face. Apply a moisturizer with SPF every morning to keep skin hydrated and protected—it may seem like an extra step, but with skin cancer being what it is, it's more necessary than you think.

Overwhelmed? Invest in skincare products with high concentrations of multiple active ingredients, to cut down on time spent over the bathroom sink. Fight aging and protect against sun damage with an anti-aging moisturizer that also contains a physical SPF. Cleanse, treat, and exfoliate in one step with a face wash that contains Benzoyl Peroxide, or powerful fruit enzymes that dissolve dead skin.
