Whether you’re just starting to focus on skincare or you’re someone who’s been enhancing your routine for years, there’s always questions lingering in the back of your mind...
How can products be layered for maximum results?
Should there be a difference between my morning and night routine?
These are all valid questions that people often revisit as their skin changes. So we put together Dr. Kaplan’s ultimate guide to what your skincare routine should look like to maximize all those precious ingredients you’re putting on your face, neck and body.
First things first, let’s talk about the differences between your morning and nighttime routine. In general, your routine won’t shift much, but the type of products can. For example, for best results, you’ll want to use different types of moisturizer for each daytime and nighttime, which we’ll explain a bit more in depth when we get to that step.
So, what’s the routine we should all be following? Well, Dr. Kaplan is a firm believer in simplicity with skincare -- that’s why we focus on the best ingredients to make sure it’s easy and effective.
Now, let’s talk about what the dream routine looks like…
Cleansing your face both morning and night is essential to keep your skin healthy. In order for the products that follow this step to work properly, you need a fresh face free of makeup and toxins. That’s why this cleansing step is so essential because not only are you removing all that unwanted dirt but you’re also preparing your skin to soak in all the other ingredients.
What do we recommend? Using a cleanser like the Purifying Foam Cleanser will do the trick both day and night. The best part is it works perfectly for ALL skin types! So as your skin changes throughout the years, you can still depend on this cleanser to make sure your face is fresh and prepped. Plus, the gel cleanser is sulfate-free and houses our 22 Certified Organic Extracts!
Your cleanser is the step where makeup, dead skin cells and other impurities are removed and after this your toner gets your face ready for the ingredients to follow. To make it simple, it’s the next step to make sure your products will get absorbed as well as possible. One thing many skincare lovers don’t know is that your toner also focuses on balancing your skin’s pH levels, which helps our skin have a healthy barrier.
How do you properly apply a toner? Good question.
With our Clarifying Toner for example, you’ll simply mist it directly on your face and lightly pat until it’s fully absorbed. The rosewater infused misting spray doesn’t only prepare your skin to absorb, but it also tightens pores and refines your skin’s texture.
No matter what time of year, it’s always a good idea to have a serum in your skincare routine. That being said, serums seem to be one of the biggest question marks for many people. What are they really? What do they do? And WHY do you need them?
Essentially, a serum is a highly concentrated skin treatment that holds hydrators (such as hyaluronic acid) and antioxidants so that your skin gets a shot of nutrients. That’s why it’s so important to use a toner, since you want to make sure your skin will absorb everything in your serum!
A huge benefit of serums is the big hit of hydration which is why it’s so important to use them at night when your skin does most of its healing. Using a serum filled with hyaluronic acid you keep your skin quenched with moisture all night. That’s why our Cellular Rejuvenating Concentrate uses two types of hyaluronic acid, at an impressive 50% concentration, so your skin is resting and repairing with as much moisture as possible.
The last step of your routine should always be moisturize, moisturize and moisturize! This final step also includes an eye cream if you have this as a part of your routine (we recommend putting that on before your face moisturizer). If you do choose to use an eye cream, using one like our Intensive Eye Concentrate that’s packed with anti-aging actives is important to have.
When you’re looking at face moisturizers, you’ll want to use something different for daytime and nighttime. Why? It’s because during the day, your skin needs to be hydrated, but also protected from environmental stressors and UV rays. At night, your skin works to repair itself from the day so you need an intensely nourishing moisturizer to help those cells revitalize and renew.
For your morning routine, Dr. Kaplan recommends using our Daily Moisture SPF 30 Concentrate to ensure you have that protection and at night, using our luxurious Night Replenishment Concentrate.
If you’re looking to enhance your routine further, look no further than our Diamond Contour Collection. It’s designed to do just that by restoring your skin’s youthful side. Plus, we keep it simple with these enhancements, that’s why products like our Diamond Contour Supercharged 1-Minute Daily Facial and the Lifting Rose Quartz Neck Serum are favorites. They barely feel like extra steps since they’re so effective, but very quick and easy to use. Taking your skincare routine to the next level also includes a focus on your lips and the Perfect Pout Duo is something that’s essential to keep your lips healthy, plump and hydrated.
