4 Reasons Why Your Skincare Routine is So Important
September 24, 20214 min read
If you’re wondering why so many people are always talking about their skincare routine, it’s because it’s more important than you might think. No matter what you do in a day, your skin is affected by the environment, your stress levels, sleep and more. That’s why you always want to make sure you’re feeding it the right ingredients.
It’s not just as simple as that though, because your skincare routine should evolve with you, as you age and depending on the season. This means that there’s a bit more to it than just a quick cleanse in order to fight aging, dry skin, sun damage and more.
So, why on earth is it so important? Let’s dive in.
Your skin IS unique… but it works the same
You may think that when it comes to skincare, you may need something different from your friends and family, but at the end of the day -- skin is skin! Dr. Kaplan believes that the right ingredients and products work wonders on any skin type. That’s because skincare is simple and everyone’s skin works the same at the base level.
Though some of us may react to certain ingredients in different ways, it’s the same basic needs that our skin has. So, when you’re looking for a skincare routine, simplicity goes a long way when you have the right ingredients and products, there’s no need to have an over complicated, ten step skincare regimen!
Naturally, our skin ages (as much as we hate it) and if you want to keep it as youthful as possible, for as long as possible, a dedicated skincare routine is a must.
Starting early with skincare, even if you don’t see wrinkles yet, is the best way to start an anti-aging routine. By starting early, though you can’t freeze your skin in time, keeping up with it will allow your skin to look youthful for as long as possible
Each season brings on new challenges for your skin. Though it may not be a massive change to your routine, you’ll want to slightly switch things up so that your skin is as healthy as possible.
For each season, you’ll want to focus on something different...
It’s starting to get chillier, but not too cold - so you’ll want to start getting into a routine of hydrating your face consistently. Usually, you’ll be okay using your regular moisturizer during this season but you’ll want to make sure in the Fall you start moisturizing your lips and including an eye cream if you aren’t already.
One of the most important things in winter is getting yourself a deep hydrating cream. This is when your skin can really dry out (and quickly) so you want to make sure you’re always hydrating it with products that work. You’ll want to make sure that what you’re using gets down to a cellular level and doesn’t just hydrate the top layer of your skin.
In the winter months, many people slow down on exfoliation, which is why once the spring season hits, you’ll want to get back into it! This is when you want to brighten up that dull skin from winter and get rid of the dead skin and new environmental stressors from being outdoors more often.
Outside of the obvious (like ensuring your day cream has an SPF) you’ll also want to make sure you’re moisturizing. Many people forget this during the summer season since your skin may feel like it’s hydrated, but unfortunately it’s usually not and could be drier than you think.
You know how they say practice makes perfect? Well, it kind of applies to your skincare routine too.
To really see everlasting results with your skincare, you want to keep up with it and stay consistent. If you go a day without keeping up, you may not think you see a difference but your skin sure does. Leaving the dirt and environmental stressors on your skin overnight can do more damage than you know.
If you continuously forget about your routine, you’ll likely start noticing breakouts, itchiness, premature aging and more. This is due to your skin not being restored, moisturized and repaired through the ingredients it needs to stay youthful and healthy.
